The newest three recruits for the Phoenix Men’s Basketball team at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay include Noah Reynolds, Elijah Jones, and Foster Wonders. Each player will be a transfer from another college and have recently signed their National Letter of Intent to continue to play basketball in Green Bay. With the new coaching change, the recruits will be playing under head coach, Sundance Wicks. Here is what Coach Wicks had to say about each player.
Noah Reynolds, junior, has had an interesting path to Green Bay. It was rumored that Reynolds was in talks with transferring to UW-Madison. Reynolds was coached by Wicks at Wyoming for a couple seasons. When hearing that Green Bay was getting Reynolds felt like a shock, due to the talks of him going to UW-Madison. Either way, last season he played in 18 games where he averaged 14.1 points per game and this is record setting for Wyoming on being the second-most points. Coach Wicks says that “we got a great one.”
Elijah Jones, junior, is very capable of making shots and the fans will see that during the games. Considering he had a 60.6 shooting percentage from the field in his last season at John A. Logan, Jones will definitely make an impact for the team. Jones was also part of the NJCAA National Championship team last year when the Vols defeated Northwest Florida State 73-70. Wicks says that Elijah Jones “has some serious JUICE!”
For Foster Wonders, the redshirt sophomore, transferring from Southern Illinois, he has a reputation to live up to being back in Green Bay. Originally from Iron Mountain, the three-time Mr. Basketball in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula will be making his return to the area. During ‘Fosty’ time in the UP, he was the all-time scoring leader with over 2,200 career points and was the runner up in the Division 3 Michigan state tournament in 2021, his senior year. Sundance Wicks is calling Foster “a cold-blooded sniper and a relentless worker.”
Overall, for this 2023-2024 men’s basketball season, the whole team has been revamped. Most of the players from the last season are gone, with the exception of a couple. It seems like Coach Wicks has done a rebuild and is starting fresh with new talent to rebuild the program. The team is truly rising from the ashes– just like a phoenix.
